A GOOD start to the season will build confidence in a Lossiemouth squad that is “buzzing” for the season to start, said boss Joe Russell.

The Coasters have added some new and experienced faces to the squad over the summer.

“The boys have worked hard in pre-season. We gave them a programme and they have stuck to it religiously. They have been on the beach and up and down hills,” said Russell.

After amassing just eight points last season, there is a determination to climb the league table this season at Grant Park.

“I am really pleased with the additions we have made. If we can make one or two more that would be ideal.”

Kris Duncan, Scott Gordon and the experienced Kev Flett have all been added to the camp. Defender Flett has kept himself in good shape and Russell is pleased to have him back.

Lossie warmed up for the league opener at home to Huntly on Saturday (3pm) with a 4-1 win at Buckie Rovers on Tuesday night.

Goals from Ryan Stewart (2), Kris Duncan and Ryan Sewell secured the win.

“It will be a tough one on Saturday and then we have the cup game with Caley and Rothes next Saturday, so it is a hard start.

“Our home performances were poor last season so we need to be a lot more defensively solid at Grant Park.

“We showed glimpes of form last season and towards the end it was really encouraging.

“We conceded a lot of goals in the last 20 minutes of games when things would tend to go wrong.”

Russell is hoping that if his young squad can find a little more consistency this season they can be competitive and overhaul a number of teams above them in the league table
