LOSSIEMOUTH manager Joe Russell is looking for an improved showing from his side against Strathspey Thistle in the Scottish Cup tomorrow, after losing to the Jags in the league.
Lossie were beaten 3-0 by Strathspey at Seafield Park at the end of August, before being drawn to face them away from home again in the first round of the cup.
While Russell would have preferred a match against a team from outwith the Highland League, he is hopeful his side can right the wrongs of August’s loss.
He said: “It would’ve been better to get a team from a different area, but we are still looking forward to the Strathspey game.
“We played them a couple of weeks ago and the players didn’t do themselves justice, so they are wanting to put in a better performance and make amends.
“The Scottish Cup is massive with the funds it brings in, and it could give us a morale boost.
“And it would be a bit of a payback to the people that have sponsored us this year. The support of the community has been phenomenal so it would be a little payback to them to say thank you.”
Last Saturday, Lossie were beaten 5-1 by Wick Academy at Harmsworth Park. Lossie took the lead early on through Ryan Stuart, but Wick roared back to win – equalising after being allowed to retake a penalty.
Russell added: “We went from a massive high having saved a penalty to a massive low. That changed the game and our heads went down."
