EVER-improving Lossiemouth must keep progressing to avoid a scrap at the bottom next season, says goal hero Connor Macaulay.

The Coasters have almost hit their 30 point target for this season following last Saturday’s fine 1-0 win at Nairn County.

Long-serving Macaulay (26), who is completing his seventh season with the club, grabbed the all-important goal at Station Park to take the points back along the Moray coast.

Lossie are now level with Deveronvale on 29 points with two matches to play at home to Strathspey Thistle tomorrow and Brechin City a week later.

Recently set a target of 30 points, the Grant Park men are almost there and a draw this weekend would be enough to hit the mark - but Macaulay wants more.

“It would be nice if we could get above Deveronvale,” he said. “As long as we keep improving as a team and if we can break the 30 points it would look nice.

“We want to finish this season on a high and look to build next year because we can’t sit still and think we have had a decent season. If we do that we will just end up going backwards.

“We know it’s going to be difficult next year but we always look to keep improving. Teams will improve, we have seen Strathspey and Turriff pick up some good wins so it will be a battle next year and we need to make sure that we improve and we are right at it, ready to go in the summer.”

Macaulay’s third goal of the campaign arrived just after half time at Nairn, and sealed Lossie’s second victory this season at a ground where they have struggled in the past.

“Ross Archibald played it into the middle, I nicked it off their boy and the space opened up. It was on my left foot but I just hit it and it ended up in the bottom corner, so I was chuffed with that.

“We won there in the cup but I think it has been a long time since we won there in the league. You don’t want to talk up records too much but it is nice when you are part of the team that breaks these records.

“We went to Turriff earlier this season and won there for the first time.

“We have struggled to get points away from home and apart from Fort William which was an away game played at our place, Turriff was the only away venue we had won at this season. So to get that off our back on Saturday was good.”
