A FRESH challenge is the motivation behind Buckie Thistle goalkeeper Kevin Main putting in a shock transfer request.
Main (31) is in his 11th season at Victoria Park and has won every Highland League honour available in that time.
And while many fans hoped that Main was a ‘Jag for life’ and would see out his career with the club, the stopper revealed the time has come to move on.
However, manager Gary Hake is adamant Main is going nowhere and is key to his rebuilding plans at Victoria Park.
Main still has almost two years left to run on his current contract, but hopes the club will be reasonable to deal with given his loyal service.
“I was going to announce my decision over the festive period, but decided to wait two or three months to see if I got the buzz back.”
However, Buckie-based Main admitted that has not been the case and he is desperate for a new adventure.
“I phoned Gary Hake the other night and he said he doesn’t want to lose me but my mind is made up. I feel now is the time for a new challenge.”
However, Jags’ boss Hake confirmed to ‘The Scot’ that Main’s transfer request has been refused.
“Kevin will not be going anywhere while I am manager of this club. He needs to get his head switched on to play for Buckie.
“He is under contract until 2016. I am building a squad here and Kevin is a massive part of that.
“Kevin is one of my best players and the best goalkeeper in the Highland League as far as I am concerned; nine or ten shut-outs this season proves that.”
