‘NOT an ideal draw’ was how Buckie Thistle manager Graeme Stewart described his team’s 600 mile Scottish Cup round trip to face Stranraer.

Fresh from a successful cup raid on Edinburgh, the Jags’ reward for making the third round of the competition is an even longer journey to the south-west tip of the country.

“It’s probably not the one we were looking for but it will be a good trip for the boys,” Stewart said.

Just minutes after Thursday’s draw had been made, the Buckie boss was researching his League 1 opponents and discovered their home form has been rocky this term.

“They’ve not been the greatest down there so far, so that gives us something to work on. We’ve just got to try and be at our best when we go down there.”

‘Spider’ hailed his cup heroes from the 2-1 win against Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium on Saturday, a result achieved after they trailed 1-0 and were down to 10 men.

Strikes by Iain MacRae and Chris Angus in the final 20 minutes gave Buckie an unexpected win against the Lowland League champs and runaway leaders this season.

Jags were brought back down to earth in midweek by a penalty shoot-out defeat at home to Fraserburgh in the Aberdeenshire Shield, but Stewart knows his men won the match that really mattered.
