A WOUNDED animal is a dangerous opponent, a fact Elgin City will need to be wary of today.

Visiting Borough Briggs are Brechin City, the club who dodged a bullet last season when the coronavirus pandemic saved them from a likely League 2 play-off match against Brora Rangers or Kelty Hearts.

Brechin didn’t get off to the best of starts in League Two last week, losing 5-1 at home to Edinburgh City but Elgin manager Gavin Price expects a reaction to that result.

“Every game is different and they will probably come out with something to prove on Saturday,” he said.

“So we’ve got to be wary of that and be a match for that and make sure we are the side that wants to win the game more.”

Price feels his team have picked up from where they left off when the pandemic stopped play in March.

Either side of the seven-month break they have clocked up a club record six consecutive wins in all competitions, and nine victories in their last ten league and cup clashes.

“That is why I banged on about how continuity was important for us this season, being a shorter season.

“It’s the same signs that I had from last season that the players are comfortable with the system we are playing and they are comfortable with their roles within that.

“It’s all good so far, the signs are good but you are only as good as your next game.

“We have to put that same application in that we are doing, the same preparation, the same work ethic and being brave on the ball which I’m demanding that they do.

Captain Euan Spark was passed fit to play at Stranraer despite missing training last week. He is carrying a slight groin strain but is set to feature against Brechin.

Darryl McHardy made the bench last week as his comeback from an ankle injury continues, and he is close to a comeback.

City have been so far unsuccessful in signing winger Tony Dingwall, who has been training with the club as a free agent.

Elgin have also organised a midweek friendly against Nairn County to give minutes to players who have not been first team starters so far this season.
