MORAVIAN Orienteering Club members have competed at a series of events over the last two weeks – with great success.

On the weekend of March 11-12, Moravian members competed at two competitions.

On the Saturday, Moravian Orienteering hosted an event in Altyre. Sunday's event was hosted by a Glasgow club at Errochty and was part of the Scottish Orienteering League.

The terrain was contrasting – it was a steep Cairngorm Hill with a lack of paths but plenty of blown over trees.

A pack of Moravians headed into the Drunmochter pass to orienteer in the blanket of snow left behind from the night before. The cold and rainy conditions did not slow down any Moravians, though.

Isobel Howard won her age category on the brown course; Rob Parkinson also took an age category victory on the blue, with Finlay McLuckie taking overall win on the blue course.

Nicola Howard took second place on the short blue in her age category. Moravians third placers were Kate Mcluckie overall on the green course and Anna Howard in her age category on the light green.

Last weekend brought another double header in the central belt, which 19 club members attended.

The middle distance championships took place in Beecraigs Country Park in Linlithgow. Unusually, Finlay McLuckie was narrowly beaten by a Deeside rival in the boys' under 16s race.

Michael Bishenden was also in a close group finishing third in the men's under 18s. Kate McLuckie was a very close fourth in the girls' under 16s with Anna Howard also fourth in the under 16s girls.

Rob Parkinson was third in an extremely close pack in men's 65+, while Eddie Harwood came first in the men's 70+. Morag McLuckie was third in the women's 50+.

Probably the club performance of the day came from Isobel Howard, who came third in the British Universities Championships which was held alongside, and attracts most of Britain’s elite athletes.

Sunday was a very contrasting affair with the second Scottish Orienteering League event on the very steep Pentland Hills.

Finlay McLuckie was again second amongst the under 16 boys, with sister Kate again fourth in the girls under 16s. Michael Bishenden was one place lower than the day before in fourth amongst the men's under 18s.

Michael Bishendon finished third in the men's under 18s race.

Andrew Cambell was probably the club’s best adult performance coming second in the men's 55+. Morag McLuckie was probably the best adult performance coming fifth in a field of various veteran age groups.
