MORAY’S involvement in junior football’s Regional Cup was ended at the first hurdle on Saturday.

All six Moray teams were knocked out in the competition’s first round.

Forres Thistle were knocked out in the most agonising fashion, conceding a 95th minute equaliser before a penalty shoot-out defeat against Longside.

Thistle went 1-0 up through Craig Robertson after half-time, before being pegged back by a Hamish Burr strike.

Neil Moir thought he had won the game with a 25-yard strike on 88 minutes, but five minutes into added time Harry Copeman scored for the visitors from close range.

Longside won the shoot-out 5-3 to knock the Jags out.

None of Moray’s other five sides scored a goal as all were eliminated at the first try.

Burghead Thistle were beaten 2-0 by Banchory St Ternan, while New Elgin were thrashed 7-0 at Banks O’ Dee – who are currently Championship leaders with full points.

Dufftown were defeated 2-0 at home by Rothie Rovers, who are in their first season in the Premier League.

Lossiemouth United were well beaten, 5-0 by top flight outfit Dyce, while Islavale went down to a 2-0 loss at home to Culter, who are top of the Premier League.

League action returns this weekend – with Lossiemouth United hosting Islavale, Dufftown travelling to struggling Whitehills and New Elgin hosting high-flying Banks O’ Dee.

Burghead Thistle are at home to Hall Russell United, while Forres Thistle travel through to Aberdeenshire to take on Glentanar.
