MORAY bowler Mike Stepney has reached the World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship final.

Stepney (41), from Elgin, and partner Jason Greenslade, from Guernsey, defeated English qualifiers Perry Martin and Jamie Walker 7-6, 10-1 in the semi-final on Tuesday, January 10.

The final, against Greg Harlow and Nick Brett, who are two-time winners, will take place on Monday, January 16.

Stepney and Greenslade continued their solid form to reach the final. The first set could have gone either way, but the duo held off a strong English end to win.

But the second set was as comfortable as you like, with Stepney and Greenslade opening up a 7-0 lead.

Martin and Walker briefly rallied with a single on the fifth end, but a single followed by a double put the result out of sight at 10-1.

The big semi-final success follows Stepney and Greenslade winning back-to-back tiebreaks against Canadian duo Dylan Jacobs and Kody Olthof in the first round and Paul Foster and Alex Marshall, who have won the world pairs on several occasions, in the quarters.

Stepney also began his singles title charge this morning, defeating England's Sam Tolchard 7-9, 6-5, 2-1.
