MORAY boxer Fraser Wilkinson went 3-0 with a first-round victory over Jordan Latimer at the Ironworks in Inverness.
Wilkinson, who lives in Forres but comes from Hopeman, won by TKO in the first round of his first ever six-round bout, knocking Latimer – who went into the fight with a 2-2 record – in just two minutes and 45 seconds.
The fight, which was part of the Highland Fight Night promoted by Kynoch Boxing, was Wilkinson’s toughest yet on paper – but he was confident before the first bell rung that he was going to come out on top.
“I think everybody expected this to be my toughest fight yet apart from myself,” he said.
“As soon as we had the weigh- ins I thought ‘I’m knocking this lad out’.
"I could tell he thought he was going to do a job on me, but I knew I was going to go at him and everything went to plan.”
Wilkinson said he was delighted with the victory, in front of a 320-strong crowd, with about 150 coming through from Moray to support him.
“I’m over the moon,” he said. “I’ve boxed in the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow but it was nothing compared to the atmosphere at the Ironworks, it was unbelievable.
"It sets up the promotion for a big night in the Highlands now.”
Wilkinson said his first question to promoter Sam Kynoch post-fight was to ask when his title fight is.
He hopes to bring a boxing night to Moray Sports Centre – or Elgin Town Hall – in 2022.
Wilkinson won't have to wait too long for his next bout, which is scheduled for May 28. More details on that will come nearer the time.
