FOOTBALL clubs in Moray are joining a new fundraising scheme to keep themselves ticking over during the coronavirus lockdown.

Forres Mechanics, Lossiemouth, Keith and Buckie Thistle have all joined the Donate A Ticket scheme, which has raised more than £100,000 for clubs across Scotland.

The website, set up by Raith Rovers fans Ruaridh Kilgour, allows fans to buy a virtual "ticket" and give funds to their favourite club. Clubs move up and down a league table depending on the amount of funds donated.

Forres Mechanics are the club to have benefitted most from the scheme so far – with 44 supporters raising £910 in just 48 hours.

Club secretary Ian Wood said: "The Mechanics thought long and hard about joining the scheme and asking people, who may have their own difficulties in these uncertain times, to help the club financially.

"We are delighted we did decide to join and we are pleased to say the Cans family have donated nearly £1000 in the first 48 hours of participation in the scheme.

"Huge thanks must go to Ruaridh Kilgour for making this happen for all the clubs involved."

28 Lossiemouth supporters have raised £487, 15 Buckie Thistle fans have raised £222 and 11 Keith fans have raised £196. Rothes and Elgin City are not involved with the scheme.

Creator Ruaridh explained the idea is all non-profit and that he takes no money from any club involved.
