The Mavericks had two teams enter in each age category with four games for each team throughout the day.

Coaches Matt Moeller, Jamie Alexander and Graham Stewart managed the teams on the day.

This was the first taste of any competitive basketball for the Moray Mavericks since they evolved from Elgin Eagles basketball following a transitional period for the club around Covid times.

The U10s games do not involve keeping a scored game and focus on developing the players and encouraging them to enjoy the sport being played in a fun, safe and competitive environment.

The U12s teams had varying levels of success with one of the teams managing two wins and a very close game that they lost by two points where the game was almost squared up on the buzzer.

In the other game a former Moray Mavericks player now representing the Highland Bears came back and showed how much he has developed by making it very difficult to stop him from scoring despite the Mavericks players best efforts.

Coach Graham Stewart said: “Basketball in the north of Scotland is in a great place right now and we look forward to having more opportunities to get together with our Highland friends again."

He added that players and parents commented on what a great experience it was and how they are looking forward to the next event.

The Moray Mavericks Basketball Club have training for U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s, U18s and adults.
