18-year-old Carissa Anderson, from Buckie, was taking on England and Ireland at the Triple Crown tri-nation tournament in Barnsley.

And she came back up the road with a silver in the trios event and a bronze in the team event.

Carissa's coach at Pinz Youth Bowling Club in Elgin is Billie Robertson, who has 30 years experience coaching at an international level.

She said: "The standard was so high. Some of the scores were incredible.

"One of the England boys scored a perfect 300. England have a proper academy. One of their boys actually threw a 246 and got beat by a Scottish guy who got 256.

"It's really a fantastic achievement for Carissa to get two medals.

"England pretty much dominated the tournament – apart from the older boys – so for us to beat Ireland was a great result."

Carissa competed at under-19s girls level, averaging an impressive 145. Each country competed in singles, doubles, trios and teams (of four).

"Her average was slightly better than usual," Billie said. "She had a couple of really good games.

"She's definitely ready for adult competition now."

The next competition for Carissa will be an adult prelim, which will take place at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on September 18.

Billie, who lives in Nairn and travels to Elgin to coach ten-pin bowling, is looking for more members to join up to the club.

"We have six or seven at the moment and could do with increasing the number of members," she said.

"We have bowlers from Inverness, Nairn, Forres, Elgin, Buckie and Archiestown – so right along the A96.

"We take on players between the ages of six and 16, there's a chance to win badges and trophies – and, one day, to play for Scotland."

Anyone interested should go along to Pinz at 6pm on Wednesdays. Bowlers will get three games for £10 during a coaching session.
