MORAY Firth Triathlon Club members celebrated success at the MPH Turriff Triathlon.

No fewer than seven members of the Elgin-based club picked up prizes.

In the short distance course (400m swim, 20km cycle and 3k run) Helen Graham was the second senior home, while Ed Rattray was 1st veteran and Tish Richford first ladies super vet and Pat Reid second ladies super vet.

Over the longer sprint distance (760m swim, 20km cycle and 5k run) Callum Alexander was the second junior home, Siobhan Evans was first veteran and Mike Reaper, a local paramedic, second veteran.

"There was a very strong field of 120 competitors," said club spokesman Russell Main, "and I was very proud to see 15 guys from Moray Firth Triathlon Club on the start line."

The club trains every Wednesday night at Moray Leisure Centre in Elgin.

With triathlon taking on a higher profile locally and nationally, the club has secured a real coup by attracting one of three national Triathlonscotland roadshows to Moray.

Brown Ferguson, the sport’s national development manager, will host the event at Elgin Community Centre on Tuesday, May 22 from 6.30-8.30pm.

"That is huge to have the roadshow coming to Moray. It is an open forum to bounce ideas about how the sport can develop," said Main.

Other roadshows are taking place in Edinburgh and Stirling. They will look at the overarching five year strategy for the sport.

The Moray club already has 30 members and hopes to increase that number in the coming months.

"We hope to act like an umbrella club. If somebody is a swimmer with Forres Bluefins, a Moray Roadrunner or a member of Elgin Cycling Club, the message is continue with that but you could also try out triathlon," added Main.

The Elgin roadshow event is open to the public to attend.
