Kyle Greig (34), from Forres, has set out to break the Guinness World Record for the most miles run on a treadmill in 24 hours.

The current record, set by Norwegian Bjorn Tore Kronen Taranger in 2018, is 164.36 miles (264.52 km) – the equivalent of six marathons back-to-back.

His attempt at the record is to help raise £5000 for two charities Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) and the Gathimba Edwards Foundation, which helps people from Kenya.

The record breaking run which takes place on Friday will be live-streamed by the Tartan Running Shorts podcast Mr Greig co-presents.

A veteran of countless long-distance challenges, including a third-place finish at the British 100km Championships, the 34-year-old is under no illusion this will be his toughest challenge to date.

He said: “Since having (my son) Logan and the joy that he brings, I want to support children and their families that haven’t been as fortunate as we are.

"I have experienced first-hand the unfortunate reality that many children and families do not get a great start in life.

"I have also experienced the horrific heartbreak that stems from a young life being taken far too soon.

"These charities will give me huge motivation to step on that treadmill and break that world record.

On the run itself he said: "I appreciate this record is extremely tough and I see this as the biggest running challenge I have ever taken on.

"I have never found running a 5km or marathon to be daunting.

"However, running for 24 hours, in one place, without tactics, without changes in pace, without refreshing changes in undulations, and with a huge amount of pressure to break a world record terrifies me.

"And you know the old adage; if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough!."
