Aberlour started brightly but were thwarted as Rothes keeper Scott Anderson made several good saves.

It was against the run of play when the visitors drew first blood through an Aron Ewan goal on 19 minutes.

Shepherd's first Villa goal soon levelled but Rothes regained the lead when Dale McTavish punished a defensive error by Marc Winchester to score.

Behind at the break, Aberlour came out for the second half in determined fashion and Shepherd struck again on 55 minutes to make it 2-2.

The homesters kept pushing for a winner and had a goal disallowed for offside, but deep into time added on, Shepherd grabbed his third of the night to steal all three points for Villa.

Moray welfare leading goal scorers:

11 - James McLaren (Hopeman)

8 - Jordi Mackie (Lhanbryde United)

6 - Ethan Blanchard (Cullen)

5 - Cammy Newton, Ryan Woods (both RAF Lossie), Vinnie Ingleby (Portsoy), Chris Greene (Thunderton)

4 - Callum Devine, Henry Jordan, Dean Stevenson, Jack McCormick (all RAF Lossie), Jamie Lees (Hopeman), Jacob Imlach (Craigellachie).

Thunderton's fine form continued with a third straight victory, seeing off Craigellachie 4-1.

It was the Speysiders who scored first, Jacob Imlach netting his fourth goal in two games with a great strike into the top corner.

The Elgin side levelled 15 minutes later, Raymond Anderson tapping in following good work by John Mallinson.

Mallinson then got himself on the score sheet with a neat half-volley strike to give the home team the lead.

Early in the second half, Chris Greene netted his fifth goal of the season at the back post from a corner to make it 3-1.

Midway through the second half, Kev Stewart embarked on a solo run and found the net to complete a 4-1 victory for the home team.

It was derby day in Lhanbryde where champions FC Fochabers were the visitors.

Fochabers broke the deadlock on ten minutes, Andrew Walker shrugging off a home defender to fire home.

United almost levelled midway through the first half as Dylan Stevenson's shot from the edge of the box came crashing back off the bar.

That was as good as it got for Lhanbryde, as they conceded a second on the half hour mark through a brilliant Nikki Souter blast from 20 yards.

Home keeper Jamie Strathdee parried a free kick early in the second half but James Higgins met the rebound with a header to make it 3-0.

Fochabers' fourth followed a good spell of pressure from their hosts, as Stuart Harrold's shot was superbly saved by Strathdee but Harrold followed up to net.

The fifth and final goal for the away team came from Warren Orford's free header at the back post from a corner.

Friday's league fixtures (7.30pm kick offs):

Aberlour Villa v Lhanbryde United

FC Fochabers v Cullen

RAF Lossiemouth v Hopeman

Thunderton v Portsoy
