More thunderstorms delay restart at Castle Stuart

PLAY has been abandoned for the day at Castle Stuart.

Attempts to complete the second round have failed.

The players were out on the course anticipating a 7.30pm resumption on Saturday when it was decided there was still too much water on the course.

Earlier in the day more thunderstorms over the Inverness area had delayed the restart of the Barclays Scottish Open.

With 76 players still to conclude their second rounds, efforts will be made to complete that from 7am on Sunday, followed by the final round later in the day.

Organisers had hoped to resume play following a massive clear up operation at the Castle Stuart Golf Links throughout today.

Over three inches of rain overnight caused widespread flooding across the course and a number of landslips.

Groundstaff have been working flat out throughout the day to try and clear the course of water.

The European Tour has announced that further thunderstorms this afternoon have delayed attempts to conclude the second round of the championship, which has now been reduced to a 54-hole event.

The final round in the shortened tournament will be played on Sunday.

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell is co-leader on -11 along with Scotland's Scott Jamieson and Peter Whiteford.
