THERE’S much more than just golf played at Buckpool Golf Club and they have changed their name to reflect that.

It will now be known as the Buckpool Golf, Sports and Social Club.

A new flag, purchased thanks to a donation from honorary president Peter Cowie, a member for more than 20 years, now flies above the renamed club.

John Adam, club secretary, said: "The club is so much more than just a golf club. While golf is the principal sport played, we offer many more sports, including squash, indoor bowling, snooker and pool, as well as hosting a series of martial arts and dance classes.

"We therefore took the decision at the last AGM to change the name to better reflect the range of activities that happens within our club.

"We also have a wide range of social activities, including dances and entertainment evenings. The club is open to all members of the public who may come in and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat, or make use of the bar and its catering facilities."

The large function hall is always busy with parties and the club recently hosted its first wedding.

At a ceremony last Saturday, during the Provost Reid Open at Buckpool, Peter Cowie hoisted the new flag. In doing so, he wished Alex Smith, Buckpool’s Golf Captain, his committee and all members of the club, a successful year. He looks forward to meeting up with and enjoying the company of his many friends at Buckpool for many years.

New members are welcome.
