NEW Forres Mechanics signing Jack Grant was happy to get some much-needed game time after making his debut against Elgin City last week.

Grant (19) made his first appearance in a Cans shirt during a 4-1 loss against Elgin at Borough Briggs last Tuesday.

And he made an impression – starting the game sitting deep in midfield and ending it playing as an attacking midfielder.

The latter is where the ex-Ross County man anticipates playing most of his games for Mechanics.

He said: “I was happy to be playing and get going after five months without a game.

“I was a wee bit slow starting in the first half, but when I moved position I felt a bit more free. I had that freedom to get forward and to get on the ball.

“During my time at County I was playing a bit deeper, but as soon as I came here the manager wanted me to push on, make runs and get on the ball.

“I want to get on the ball, run at players and attack. But the thing to remember is that when you lose the ball you have to get back."

Against Elgin, Grant went into a 50-50 with City centre-back Daryl McHardy – with the City man coming off worse and being stretchered off with an ankle injury.

Grant himself came away with an injury from that incident, with McHardy's studs cutting the inside of the midfielder's thigh.

But that sort of thing doesn't phase Grant. He added: "I like making tackles and I’m not scared to get stuck in. I’m a box-to-box midfielder.

"In the Highland League, I think I’ll do quite well.”

Grant, who stays in Culbokie, spent part of last season on loan at Keith, where he impressed enough that manager Dean Donaldson pushed the boat out to get him to join permanently. But he decided to move to Mosset Park.

“I absolutely love Deano,” he said. “I loved playing for Keith.

“But the miles I was doing became too much. I was coming back at 2am from training and I’ve started my plumbing apprenticeship now, so it’s not ideal.

“The main thing for me was Forres’ location, but hopefully we can be further up the table than I was last year at Keith.”
