ELGIN City kicked off 2018 in the worst possible fashion with an embarrassing 7-0 thrashing at Peterhead.
The result on Tuesday equalled the margin of City's heaviest defeat in 18 seasons of Scottish league football.
Peterhead ran riot with six second half goals, five coming after Elgin's trialist goalkeeper Iain Ross had to go off with a groin injury.
Broughty Athletic keeper Ross (33) was drafted in by Elgin boss Gavin Price to add experience to the team, while Irish winger Zak Elbouzedi, began his month's loan from Caley Thistle on the visitors' bench.
Ross and his defence kept Peterhead at bay until the 27th minute when Rory McAllister curled in a free kick to give Blue Toon the lead.
Elbouzedi came on at the break for Bruce Anderson, the Aberdeen loan teenager's last game for City before returning to the Dons.
It remained 1-0 until 54 minutes when Ross denied McAllister but Jordon Brown followed up to score.
The keeper went off to be replaced by Marc Waters, who was soon picking the ball out of the net as Nicky Riley made it 3-0 midway through the half.
City caved in, losing four more in little more than 15 minutes as Jamie Stevenson (2), Mason Robertson and sub Russell McLean added to the misery of the away supporters.
It was the Moray club's biggest loss since being crushed 8-1 at Alloa in April, 2012.
Their next match is at home to Clyde on Saturday.
