ROTHES clocked up one of the biggest wins in their history when they thrashed Fort William 9-1 on Saturday.
The Speysiders, so recently on the wrong end of heavy defeats, ran riot on struggling Fort with a devastating show at MacKessack Park.
Ex-Fort striker Scott Davidson plundered a hat-trick against his old team, and manager Steven MacDonald was pleased his team showed no mercy.
“I don’t think anyone felt sorry for Rothes over the years when they were getting hammered so we’ve got to keep going,” he said.
“The attitude and desire going forward in the second half, and the work rate was really good so I’m pleased with that.”
Davidson set up player/assistant Dan Moore for the seventh minute opener with a cross from the left.
Fort then equalised six minutes later through John Treasurer but that was as good as it got for the hapless visitors.
A superb strike into the top corner by Davidson made it 2-1 and Dale Gillespie added a third with an even better blast from fully 35 yards.
Three-one up at the break, Rothes hit Fort with a blitz of goals at the start of the second half.
Davidson won and scored a penalty, and within two minutes completed his first Rothes treble from a pinpoint Moore cross.
Moore then set up Dale Wood for a headed goal and Jaime Wilson tapped in number seven to make it four goals in six minutes for the Speysiders.
Subs James MacKay, with a 30 yard grounder, and Craig Cormack with a deflected header took the score to 9-1 with nearly 20 minutes still to go.
Kris Duncan, Davidson and Craig Cormack all missed chances to take it into double figures but there was no doubting the quality of the Speysiders’ performance.
Goal hero Davidson, who has now netted 12 goals in 11 games for Rothes, said: “I’m delighted and I’ll enjoy my night out now.
“But it’s not just about me. It was a good all-round performance especially in the second half.”
The win made it fourteen goals scored in two games for Rothes, who thumped Strathspey Thistle 5-0 last week.
