LOSSIEMOUTH have lured World Cup and European Cup winner Nobby Stiles as their star guest at a fundraising sportsman’s dinner in the town.

The tough-tackling midfielder, who starred in England’s famous 1966 World Cup triumph and Manchester United’s maiden European Cup success the following year, is main speaker at the Highland League club’s dinner on Saturday, May 28.

On the same night as his former club tackles Barcelona in the Champions League final, Stiles will be sharing some of his past glories with around 170 guests inside Lossiemouth Social Club.

Club secretary Alan McIntosh said a limited number of tickets are still available for what promises to be a memorable evening.

After England beat West Germany 45 years ago to claim their Wembley World Cup success, Stiles is remembered for dancing on the pitch with the trophy in one hand and his false teeth in the other.

He was back at Wembley a year later playing in the Manchester United team which defeated Benfica in the European Cup final, and also won two league titles with the Old Trafford giants.

At the dinner Stiles will be accompanied by son John, who performs a comedy act, while the compere for the evening is Moray Golf Club vice captain John Elwood.

A Manchester shirt autographed by Scotland international Darren Fletcher, and signed Italy World Cup jersey will be among the items auctioned off on the night. There will also be an Aberdeen shirt auctioned off for former Lossie skipper Stevie Dixon’s testimonial fund.

Tickets for the dinner, priced £38 each, are available by contacting Alan McIntosh on 07890 749053.
