The Buckie-based Paterson told www.formartineutd.com: "I am really delighted and grateful that the chairman and other important influences at the club for keeping faith and trust with me in continuing to work hard to keep Formartine United challenging for all Highland League trophies.

"It allows vital planning to strengthen the squad for next season and to go ahead and ensure we finish the current season strongly."

Paterson (55) has also managed Elgin City, Huntly, Inverness CT, Aberdeen, Peterhead and Forres Mechanics.

Added Paterson: "Clubs that promote stability and support their manager in the current hire and fire culture generally reap the rewards of this loyalty. I hope to add more trophies to reflect this view."

A spokesman for Formartine said: "We are delighted that Steve has extended his contract for another two seasons."

Formartine won the Aberdeenshier Cup earlier this season, the club’s first trophy in the Highland League.

They lost out on the league title last season after a final day defeat to Cove Rangers and are desperately trying to hang on to Brora’s coat-tails this season.
