A dominant display by the Elgin side saw them run out resounding victors by 81 points to 14 in their penultimate game of the 2021/22 Tennent’s Caledonia North Region Division 2 season.

With the memory of last week’s encounter still fresh in their minds, the Moray side started the game with fire in their bellies and with a point to prove.

Good strong running and handling play from the outset saw them totally dominate the first quarter of an hour of the fixture and create a 17-0 lead having scored three tries with one converted.

The first was scored by Rory Millar after a number of phases in the 22; the second saw Chris Robottom drive over after a good attacking 5 metre line-out and the third by a Calum Smith charge after a strong scrum in the 22.

Within the space of a couple of minutes around the twenty-minute mark, they had added two further tries for 29-0.

Fergus Nicol was on the end of the first after good running and handling play and Millar was on hand to score his second after a similar build up.

The Moray side were dominating all aspects of the game and one further try was scored before the break.

A strong scrum drove their opponents backwards and following a couple of quick passes, Calum Archibald outstripped the defence to make the line for 36-0.

Following the break, Moray left off where they started and Smith scored his second when he burst over following a clean attacking line-out take. The score was now 41-0.

In the 47th minute and on a rare breach into the Moray 22, Grammar scored a converted try, for 41-7, following a drive from an attacking line-out.

Moray replied very quickly and in a five-minute spell added three more tries, two converted, for 60-7.

Smith scored his third when he was quickest to react when the Grammar wing was snagged in his 22; Cameron Hughes scored when he cut back through the defensive line and finally Millar added his third when he intercepted in midfield.

It was all one way and in the 60th and 67th minutes, Smith took his tally to five tries when he scored from a typical rampaging run and from the back of a scrum 5. Millar converted both for 74-7.

With three minutes to play, Connor McWilliam intercepted a pass around the visitor’s 10-metre line and ran in under the posts for a Moray’s final converted try and 81-7.

In the last play of the game, Grammar scored a consolation try to leave the final score Moray 81 Grammar 2nds 14.

It had been a comprehensive victory for the Moray side who had dominated every facet of play.

Right from the opening whistle, they had shown great determination and power and the Grammar side did not have answer.

Thirteen tries were scored in a complete squad effort, one which the substantial support very much enjoyed.

The Moray side now only have one game left in the league which is away to Banff in a couple of weeks' time.
