PICTURES: Banff 0 Moray 99 - Fifteen try romp in Banff makes it ten Tennent’s Caledonia North Region League Division 2 wins in a row for Moray

A clinical 80-minute all-round display by Moray last Saturday, saw them comprehensively beat Banff by 99 points to nil, in their latest Tennent’s Caledonia North Region League Division 2 match in Banff.

For the entire eighty minutes, the Elgin side dominated in all facets of play and Banff had no answer to the power and expansive game produced which resulted in 15 tries being scored.

Moray got off to a flyer and in the first 20-minutes scored 6 tries for a 0-40 lead.

The first, from the kick-off saw Neil Alexander gather the ball and run hard at the defence. In contact he offloaded to Fergus Nicol who broke three tackles to score. Rory Millar converted the try.

From the restart, and after a couple of driving phases, the ball was moved to the backs and a long miss pass from Cameron Hughes reached Lewis Scott who outpaced the defence to score the second. Millar added the extras.

A quick tap penalty created the third when the ball was moved wide to Connor McWilliam who broke the defence for an unconverted try.

The fourth and bonus point try followed. Continuity driving play produced the opportunity to move the ball wide to Lewis Hay to score a try converted by Millar.

From the restart, Mark Taylor made ground before setting ruck. Quick hands saw the ball reached Millar to score a try he converted.

The sixth came after ball was ripped in midfield by Douglas Ireland, then opened with Scott stepping inside before releasing the ball to Cameron Ireland to score. Millar added the extras.

Banff briefly halted the onslaught in the second twenty minutes of the half but Moray added one more try before the break. McWilliam, with ball in hand, spotted John Westmacott free on the wing. His chip was collected and the try scored in the corner. Millar landed the kick from the touch-line for 0-47 at half-time.

The Elgin side got off to a flyer in the second half. They kicked off and managed to regather the ball before spinning it wide for Scott to score an unconverted try for 0-52.

In the 47th minute, Scott got his hat-trick try. Hughes was quick to react to spilled ball and moved it wide. The winger went round the last man to score. Millar made it 0-59 with the conversion.

Ten minutes later, Marc Higgins breached into the 22. Ball was moved quickly to Hughes who dummied, straightened and made the line for an unconverted try and 0-64.

On the 65-minute mark, a quick tap and quick hands through the backs saw the ball reach Hughes to score his second in the corner. Millar landed the kick from out wide for 0-71.

From the restart, ruck was set. Iain Stuart picked up and went for it. The defence tried to catch him but he made the line. Millar added the extras for 0-78.

In the final eight minutes of the match, Moray added three further tries. The first, scored by Ben Taylor when he received ball in attack, stepped inside and made the line.

The second, scored by Alexander when he received the ball after some strong driving play and shrugged off a number of tackle attempts to score.

The final try was scored by Stuart, his second of the afternoon. A quick tap penalty saw Marc Higgins drive to 5 metres before offloading to the scrum-half to score. Millar converted all three tries for a final score of Banff 0 Moray 99.

This Saturday, Moray are at home to Mackie.
