PICTURES: Medals galore for Elgin Amateur Athletics Club athletes representing Moray secondary schools in a series of national competitions

Elgin Amateur Athletic Club are celebrating some fine performances from their athletes in national schools competitions.

Gold medals were won, Scottish records fell and personal bests were achieved by the Moray pupils across a series of top level Scottish competitions.

At the Scottish Schools Secondary National Relay Championships in Glasgow, four Elgin AAC under-15 girls made up the Elgin Academy team.

Lillia Clarke, Iris Whitton, Ava Cruickshank and Lauren Abbott represented Elgin Academy at the Scottish Secondary Schools Relay Championships and won bronze.

Lillia Clarke, Iris Whitton, Ava Cruickshank and Lauren Abbott claimed the bronze medal in their relay and ran a club record time of 52.53.

A number of Elgin AAC athletes represented their schools at the Scottish Secondary Schools National Pentathlon Championships in Grangemouth - with some impressive results.

In a very tough field of competition in all age categories, the Moray youngsters did not disappoint.

Elgin High pupil Holly Whittaker became Scottish Schools under-14 pentathlon champion, smashing the Scottish under-14 hurdles record in the process.

In the under-15s, Elgin Academy's Iris Whitton took part in her first pentathlon event and scored an impressive 2291 points, finishing in eighth place.

Tom Palmer represented Keith Grammar School in the 15-17 category and scored 2545 points for sixth place.

A week later saw the Scottish Athletics National Secondary Schools Championships take place at Grangemouth.

EAAC represented five secondary schools across Moray with 12 athletes putting in 26 performances to achieve eight PBs and four club records, a championship record and a trophy for best hurdler of the day.

Seven athletes were representing Elgin Academy. Lillia Clarke qualified for the semi-finals in 200m, Ava Cruickshank managed a 100m PB and reached the final of both sprint events, finishing seventh in both.

Evie Abbott impressed in the 800m while Iris Whitton managed a PB in the 75m hurdles to secure the silver medal and also finished fourth in the shot putt.

Brooke Lewis was involved in a huge field of 100m runners while in the 300m, Lauren Abbott charged through for the gold medal.

She was joined in gaining a top podium spot by Tamsin Fowlie who won the 200m and finished fourth in the 100m.

Elgin High joined their town neighbours in picking up a string of honours at the meeting.

Lexi Grant managed a PB in finishing fourth for 75m hurdles and produced a fine leap of 5.12m in the long jump to take the silver.

Holly Whittaker added to her growing list of honours with her best long jump effort yet, a club record 5.27m to claim gold.

Her best was yet to come as she broke not only a club record but a championship record to win gold in the 75m hurdles and pick up the trophy for best hurdler of the day.

High jumper Eilidh Neillie-Rutherford did Speyside High proud by finishing fifth while there were two medals for Keith Grammar pupil Tom Palmer, who took bronze in 400m hurdles with a new PB and silver in the 100m hurdles.

The medals were well spread around the schools as Lossie High's Andrew Lumsden grabbed a PB and a club record to win silver in the 300m, as well as finishing 10th in the long jump.
