THE best goal of Ryan Farquhar's Highland League career was timed nicely to coincide with a visit from the BBC Scotland TV cameras.

Farquhar's stunning, acrobatic volley helped Lossie to victory over Deveronvale on Saturday, a perfect way to get off the mark in his second spell at the Grant Park club.

It could easily have ended up being one of those goals witnessed only by the select few inside Grant Park, but instead was captured for a TV programme set to return to the screens this Friday.

A View from the Terrace, adapted for television from a football podcast called The Terrace, sent a crew to Moray for footage from last weekend's game and fortunately the cameras were rolling when Farquhar produced his moment of magic.

The wonder strike was also captured by Highland News and Media photographer Daniel Forsyth.

Just 60 seconds after Robert Scott had fired home a spectacular Vale opener, the Lossie man went one better when he propelled himself through the air to meet Ross Archibald's right wing cross and spank home his entry for goal of the season.

"It’s definitely the best goal I’ve ever scored and I don’t think I'll ever score a better one," Farquhar said.

"I think I’ve watched it a thousand times!

"I was playing up top because our striker was out injured, Ross dug out a cross and it was one of those where you knew you just had to swing a leg at it, not expecting it to go anywhere near the goal.

"As soon as it left my foot, I realised it had a chance and luckily enough it went clean into the top corner. I could not have caught it any better.

"It was a beauty, and that is my first goal since I came back to Lossie so it’s not a bad one to start off with."

Just moments after Farquhar's spectacular equaliser, Lossiemouth were awarded a disputed penalty kick which stopper Dean Stewart converted for what proved to be the home winner.

Farquhar's previous club was Deveronvale and he was sent off during a 6-0 thrashing from his old team in Banff earlier this season.

The former Elgin City and Forres Mechanics' man was ready to pack in football when Covid shut his sport down.

Just a few months ago he returned to the game, playing for one of his local village teams Hopeman in the Moray welfare league.

Those games got him back to fitness for another shot at Highland League football and he admitted it took a while to make the transition back up the ranks.

"I didn’t know if I would go back to football at that point but I’m really enjoying being back at Lossie," he said. "I'm getting football week in, week out with a great bunch of lads.

"The last three or four weeks I’ve felt I’m definitely more or less at my full peak sharpness. I'm playing a lot better than I was when I first came back.

"I needed the sharpness and the match fitness and the team is playing well just now, so it’s all good.

"I played against Vale earlier in the season and we got absolutely battered 6-0. I actually got sent off in that game, my first sending off.

"We got it all wrong in that game but played them a week later and we could have beaten them but we lost on penalties.

"But we definitely deserved it on Saturday."
