Moray started well and in the fourth minute took the lead. After a good passage of handling play, they progressed into the 22. A couple of driving phases later the ball reached No 8 Neil Alexander who broke the defence and scored. Full-back Rory Millar landed the conversion for 0-7.

The Elgin side continued to press but in the 29th minute, they did well to hold the home team out when they put together their first concerted attack.

In the 29th minute, however, they stretched the lead. A penalty took them to an attacking line, five metres out. Clean ball was taken, driven and hooker Marc Higgins chose the correct moment to break off and drive over the line. Millar landed the extras for 0-14.

Two offside penalties around the half hour mark were both landed by Millar to take the lead to 0-20.

In the final play of the half, the visitors drove deep into the Lossie half, to a ruck. A sweeping backs move released Millar on the right wing. He made good ground into the 22 before turning the ball back to centre Connor McWilliam to run the try in under the posts. Millar converted for a half-time score of 0-27.

After the break, Moray continued to press and in the 47th minute added another try. Attacking in the 22, a loose pass was picked off his toes by prop Mark Taylor and he brushed aside a couple of tackle attempts to score out wide. Millar superbly landed the conversion kick for 0-34.

The Lossiemouth side rallied and put together some hard forward driving play in the 22 but the visiting defence stood firm. In the 60th minute, however, they breached the defensive line when their blindside wing-forward chose a good line to score a converted try, reducing the lead to 7-34.

The Elgin side returned to the offensive and in the 72nd minute scored a fifth try. Good continuity driving and passing play by forwards and backs took them into the 22 where wing-forward Fergus Nicol made the break before offloading to centre Cameron Hughes and followed up to get the return pass inside to score. Millar added the extras for 7-41.

In the final minute, wing-forward Connor Cameron made a good break through the middle before setting up ruck. Ball was moved wide through quick hands and scrum-half Cameron Ireland finished off the move by scoring the try. Millar added the conversion for a final score of 7-48.

The pace and width that Moray had put on the ball had caused problems for the RAF side all afternoon. This and a sound defensive display has set the foundations for a convincing win over their local rivals.

This Saturday Moray are away to Aberdeen Grammar 2nds.
