Moray 2nds lost by 50 points to 12 against a well organised Stornoway side in their latest Caledonia League Division 2 North fixture last Saturday at Morriston.
The islanders took an early lead when a knock-on from the home team gave them the possession to score a converted try for 0-7.
The home side tried hard to get back on terms but Stornoway added a second converted try to make it 0-14.
Moray did get on the board and reduced the lead when debutant Arran Lawson-Johnston scored after a good team break from the half-way line.
Late in the half, the Elgin side leaked two cheap unconverted tries leaving the half-time score at 5-24.
The Elgin side started the second half brightly and applied pressure in the 22. Andrew McBean scored from a move off a penalty and Chris Clarke added the conversion, reducing the lead to 12-24.
Moray continued to press but a penalty gave the islanders the opportunity to advance into the 22 and break through the defence to score a converted try for 12-31.
Some powerful home scrummaging was causing problems but some loose defending leaked two tries taking the Stornoway lead to 12-43.
Heads never went down and the home side tried hard to add to their tally but in the last play of the game, the visitors broke and scored a final converted try for a final score of Moray 12 Stornoway 50.
It had been a hard one to take for the Moray side as they had competed really well in the game.
The scrum was strong but a number of unforced errors had been their undoing in good field positions.
There was a few issues with defensive organisation but this will improve the more game time the players get together.
Moray 2nds do not have a fixture this Saturday but they are away to Highland 3rds on the 14th October.
