A DREICH game on a dreich day saw Buckie Ladies open their league campaign with a loss against visitors Sutherland.

A scoreless first half saw more of the same after the restart until Sutherland captain Bethany Sutherland held off a defender before slotting the ball past Buckie keeper Sophia Golebiewski with around 20 minutes left on the clock for what was to be the only goal of the game.

Buckie manager Laura Duncan said: "It's a disappointing result for us, to be honest, but all credit to Sutherland on their win.

"We battled to the final whistle but it just wasn't to be for us.

"I'd say we dominated the first half but after the break it was a far more even game. We had our chances, especially in the first half, but just didn't take them and ultimately Sutherland punished us for that.

"We always knew this would be a tough game.

"It's now a case of picking ourselves up and getting ready to go again."

While the squad is carrying a few injuries there was some good news in the shape of Emily McAusland who is now back in training after a long-term injury.

Buckie's next game will see them return to Gordon Park on Sunday, March 24 when they will face Ross and Cromarty, kick-off time to be confirmed. Keep up to date with match details and other Buckie Ladies news by visiting the club Facebook page.
