JUST a day after signing for Elgin City, Aaron Reid fired his new club to three points at Forfar Athletic on Monday.

With the game edging towards a 0-0 draw after Russell Dingwall's missed penalty, manager Gavin Price introduced new signings Aaron Reid, on loan from Aberdeen, and Mitchell Taylor.

And the double switch had the desired impact when, in the 89th minute, Reid nodded the Black and Whites to a crucial 1-0 win at Station Park.

For Price, the goal showed exactly why he wanted to get transfer business done as early in January as possible.

"It was a good introduction for both of them," he said.

"They both came on and impacted the game and that's why we wanted to bring them in, because they are different attacking options.

"We don't score a lot from crossed balls but they give us that option.

"I'm glad I did get them both in on the first day possible because it impacted the result."

Both Reid, who joined Aberdeen after firing goals in for fun at Turriff United in the Highland League, and Taylor, who joins from Camelon Juniors, have been on Elgin's radar for some time.

"I went and watched Camelon a couple of times before we played them and he caught the eye, and he did well in the game against us in the Scottish Cup," Price said.

"With Aaron, we have been working on that for quite a while. Steve Dunn (goalkeeper coach) watched two or three Turriff games at the end of the year."

Meanwhile, City have lost two players, for now at least, with on-loan left-backs Lewis Nicolson and Greig Young returning to their parent clubs.

Nicolson was a late sub for injury-stricken Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their 6-1 win over Cove Rangers on Monday, while Young was an unused substitute for Raith Rovers.

Price is hoping to get two more players – including a replacement left-back – in before, potentially before Saturday's League Two clash with East Fife.

He added: "We have players that can play left-back but we'd hope that we hope that one of them (Greig Young or Lewis Nicolson) will be coming back, but we'll have to wait and see.

"We certainly have one other player on the radar that we hope to sort this week, and we would like two more players in – with one being a left-back.

"If possible we want them both in before East Fife on Saturday."

The win at Forfar moved Elgin City five points clear of fifth place, securing their place in the play-off places.

The next aim is to get one over East Fife, who have won two games in two against City this campaign.

"I don't normally look at the league table," Price said. "But I had a look after the game and, with half the season played, it looks good.

"But we need to keep pushing on if we can. The first home game of the season was against East Fife and that was the poorest we have been this campaign.

"We were unlucky away and should have got something so hopefully we can get something on Saturday.

"Our away form is better than our home form at the minute so we are looking to improve that and get it right. We've talked about that over the last couple of weeks.

"There are a couple of things we can do to get us on the front foot, but we are getting there."
