Victory for Elgin City at Albion tonight could reignite their League 2 promotion bid, while defeat may lead to the threat of relegation resurfacing.

Such is the tight nature of SPFL's fourth tier, just five points separate the teams placed third and eighth in the rankings.

City are currently caught in between, four points behind third-placed Annan Athletic and seven ahead of bottom club Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic.

A win over Rovers would springboard them back into the play-off positions, while victory for the ninth-placed hosts would bring them up to within three points of the Black and Whites in the table.

Tonight's match is also Elgin City's 800th in the Scottish League since gaining entry in 2000.

City manager Gavin Price admitted after Saturday's 1-0 loss at home to Stranraer that league safety has become a pressing concern for his club.

"We need to make sure we’ve got enough points on the board to be safe," he said.

"We are looking both ways at the minute and we’ve got to recognise that."

Comfortably in third place at the turn of the year, City's dreadful home form has jeopardised their push for the play-offs.

The Black and Whites have won just one and drawn two of their last eight home league contests, winning four away from home over a similar period.

Price said he was "really angry" after Saturday's flop.

"It was another very very poor home performance. There has to be anger in the players as well.

"For some reason our form away from home has been much, much better than at home.

"We need to realise we are a team that’s good at playing a certain way of football and we didn’t do that against Stranraer, and it has cost us.

"I keep blaming the conditions and the pitch that dictates that you need to play in a slightly different way, and we didn’t carry out how we wanted to play."

Price admitted his team badly missed 500+ appearance midfielder Brian Cameron and centre back Jake Dolzanski, who are both expected to sit out tonight's match.

Captain Matthew Cooper and goalkeeper Daniel Hoban are also on the sidelines.
