Reconstruction speculation looms large in Scottish football, with Rangers and Celtic understood to be keen to add colt teams as part of a proposed 14-14-18 structure for next term which would also include Brora and Kelty.

Elgin City are not in favour of adding clubs to the league at present, but manager Price said he just wants a decision made soon.

“I just want to be told what’s going on,” he said. “It’s getting a bit ridiculous with the chopping and changing, they need to make a decision and be fair on clubs to let them know what they are planning for.

“It would help if they could give us dates that we will be allowed to come back and give us something to work towards. We will just get on with whatever we are given now. We just want to get back into it.”

Price’s summer plans for building his team for next term are in limbo while doubts remain over how clubs can survive during the Covid-19 shutdown.

He has lost Shane Sutherland to Caley Thistle and Andy McDonald to St Cadoc’s YC, but said midfielder Rabin Omar placed himself on a PFA available players’ list instead of waiting for an Elgin offer, and could yet return.

City have Tom McHale, David Wilson, Darryl McHardy, Euan Spark, Matthew Cooper, James McGowan, Brian Cameron, Jake Thomson, Rory MacEwan, Smart Osadolor, Kane Hester and pre-contract signing Angus Mailer on their books for next term.

Price is also keen to keep Stephen Bronsky, Russell Dingwall and Conor O’Keefe but is unable to make contract offers at this stage.

“Obviously the board is going to have to work to try and work out how the budget is going to change or whatever, and we need to be realistic that things are going to change a wee bit in terms of that for next season.”
