ANDREW Rollo has always dreamed of being a golf professional.

The Moray ace is a step closer the lucrative European Tour.

Rollo (27) has graduated as a PGA professional and qualified for the televised PGA Europro Tour in the same week.

He will represent Moray Golf Club on the UK-based tour which acts as a stepping stone to the Challenge Tour and from there to the lucrative European Tour.

“For every young golfer it is a dream to become a professional and I want to see how far I can go,” said Rollo, who lives in Lossiemouth.

“The Europro tour is going to be a really exciting time. Not only will I get to play against some of the best players in Europe, on some of the country’s best courses, but it should take my playing to a new level.”

He first swung a club aged 10 and after honing his skills at Elgin and Moray golf clubs went on to win North District and Scotland amateur honours.

His debut season will be made even more special by the fact that Moray Golf Club will host a tour event for the first time from July 10-12.

“Moray Golf Club is a great championship course and it is a credit to them all to have been selected as a host club.”

One of the biggest factors is securing financial backing to try and cover the cost of competing.

“The entry fee for each tournament is £300 and then you have four or five days in a hotel and the cost of travel, so it could cost anything up to £700 for each event,” he said.

The top five players in the Europro Tour will automatically earn Challenge Tour cards for the following season, although there are other avenues to secure places in Challenge Tour events.
