Logan Ross (16) played in the Coasters’ friendly win over Alford on Saturday and comes into their squad for the home match against Fraserburgh this weekend.

Lossie boss Joe Russell wants to give Stewart Black competition for the number 1 shirt, with the club’s other keeper Trevor Dear taking time out due to work commitments.

“Logan’s nearly 17 and signed a professional contract in the summer so we have him in until January at the minute, and we’ll see how he does,” said Russell.

The manager was pleased to see his team clock up their tenth pre-season match unbeaten by defeating Alford, and thrilled to see new striker Martin Charlesworth come off the bench to score with his first touch of the game.

“He should be fit for Saturday if everything goes OK in training. He is raring to go and will be itching to get among the goals this season.”

Lossie are one of the few clubs to keep playing and training twice a week, even when the proposed October Highland League start was delayed by six weeks.

Since losing heavily to Elgin City in their first friendly they have been on winning form against mainly lower league opposition.

“It’s maybe been a couple of weeks too long but the guys are itching to get the season going.”

Lossie could also play new signings Jared kennedy and Fergus Edwards, but have a doubt over key midfielder Ross Elliott who rolled over his ankle in Saturday’s friendly.

Russell knows his team could hardly have a tougher start against a team he regards as one of two serious title contenders.

“Without being disrespectful to everybody else I think it will be between Fraserburgh and Brora for the title.

“Fraserburgh are very strong but we’re hoping the lads go out there and give it everything they’ve got.”

Lossiemouth are still working on being given the go-ahead to introduce fans back to matches, after the plug was pulled on a test event two weeks ago.

“We don’t know if there will be fans on Saturday but we certainly hope so,” said Russell.
