ROSS Jack has urged the fans to play their part as Elgin City look to build on their early season momentum.

The Black and Whites kick off their third division campaign at home to Berwick Rangers tomorrow (Saturday).

And the manager believes the supporters can be the vital 12th man as they look to get off to a winning start.

Despite losing 2-1 last weekend at East Fife in the Scottish Communities League Cup, Jack and assistant Barry Wilson were delighted with the performance.

They got caught by two breakaway goals from the home side in the second half, but hit back through Brian Cameron and were unfortunate not to grab an equaliser in the closing stages.

Jack praised the fan power after the opening 2-1 win at Ross County in the Ramsdens Cup a fortnight ago, and he has urged fans who travelled to Dingwall and Fife to spread the word about City’s performances.

"Everybody who saw us in the first two games will be positive about the start to the season and hopefully other people will have heard good reports," he said.

"That might encourage other people to come along on Saturday. Let’s get a good crowd behind us and get some vocal support.

"Hopefully we can respond to the fans by giving them something to encourage them back again."

Jack is conscious of the need to get early points on the board in the league.

"We have a nice little run with the first four games and, no disrespect to the other teams, it has given us a good opportunity to take advantage of that," said Jack.

Saturday’s game has the makings of a cracker if both teams take their cup form into the game at Borough Briggs.

Jack and Wilson’s passing philosophy won’t change this season and City have pace by the bucketload which can hurt teams.

All they need to add is a more ruthless streak when they are on top and consistency to their game.

"At times last season some of the football we played was tremendous, but we didn’t finish teams off. We missed too many penalties and were maybe a bit too gung-ho at times.

"We need to have really strong home form and try and pick up more points on the road," he added.
