ROTHES boss Steven MacDonald believes his club can finish in the top half of the Highland League for the first time in many years.

Saturday’s 4-1 win against Nairn County pushed the Speysiders back into tenth spot, and MacDonald believes they can go even higher.

Their next three games against fellow mid-table sides will go a long way towards determining how high the MacKessack Park men can go.

Rothes host Turriff tonight (Wednesday) then pay a visit to a Huntly side just a place above them in the table this weekend.

Another home game against fast-improving Wick Academy, who are currently eighth, will be equally important for both sides in the push for places.

“Vale, Wick and Huntly have all got winnable games on Wednesday night so it’s a must-win game for us against Turriff to keep in there,” said MacDonald.

“We just want to finish as high as we can. To get in that top ten would be great.

“If we finish really strongly we could even finish seventh, it isn’t inconceivable that you could pass Buckie if you went out and won all your games.

“But on the other side of it you are not far from slipping back to that twelfth place.”

MacDonald could have top scorer Scott Davidson in contention for a start against Turriff.

Davidson marked his return from injury with a sub appearance in the Nairn victory.

Craig Cormack wasn’t used as a sub against Nairn but is expected to see some action on Wednesday night.

There’s a busy programme of midweek games with sixteen teams in action.

Buckie make the trip to Formartine United for their penultimate match of the season. and Keith are at home to Nairn County.

Lossiemouth return from a free weekend to take on Huntly at Christie Park and Deveronvale make the journey to Grantown to take on Strathspey Thistle.

Newly-crowned champions Cove Rangers’ unbeaten record goes on the line when they face Fraserburgh at Bellslea Park. while Inverurie Locos host Brora Rangers.

Wick Academy have a marathon trip ahead of them as they head for Fort William.
