ROTHES are determined to hang onto star striker Kris Duncan after rejecting two bids from Deveronvale.

Duncan was on target as the Speysiders opened their league campaign with a 1-0 win at Turriff United last Saturday.

His 16 goals last season and two goals in two games at the start of this, have prompted the Banff club to make their move.

However, Rothes boss Graham McBeath admitted they will have to up their offer to have any hope of landing Duncan (21).

"The Vale will have to come in with the right money before we would let him speak to them. Kris has hinted to me that he wants to stay where he is," said McBeath.

"He has started the season on fire, so I am not surprised there has been interest in him. To be honest, I was surprised clubs weren’t sniffing about him in the summer

"We have spoken to him about a new deal as he is out of contract at the end of the season, but there would still be compensation due for him as he is under 23."

McBeath himself could be a Turriff target following the departure of Kris Hunter to Fraserburgh.

He was Hunter’s assistant at The Haughs before returning to Rothes for a second stint as manager.

McBeath said he was unware of any approach from Turriff and was fully focussed on Saturday’s home clash with Nairn County.
