That's the view of Speysiders manager Ross Jack, who signed Brown from Caley Thistle in 2019 after a successful loan spell.

He scored 13 goals for the Speysiders from midfield this season despite missing several weeks through injury.

Manager Jack admitted it will hurt his team to lose a player of Brown's quality but expects the player to have a bright future in the game.

"It’s gut wrenching to lose the type of player that Jack was and his character, his manner and everything else about him," he said.

"He was a first class footballer who in my opinion is destined for higher things.

"He was a joy to work with, he knows he is far from the finished article but he is prepared to listen and learn and do everything he can to improve.

"We’ve lost a massive asset and Peterhead have gained a huge prospect.

"When he signed I made it clear there was no way I would stand in his way. I want him to play at the highest level possible and if he could help me we would do everything we could to help him.

Thankfully Rothes were true to their word. We could have held out for money at the end of the season but we dedicated that in the interest of Jack, that was what he wanted, it’s a good stage of his career to go and try league football and maybe it's a springboard to something else.

"I can’t thank Peterhead enough for the way they went about their business."

Brown isn't the only player to exit MacKessack Park, with defender Ali Stark completing a move to Aberdeen juniors Banks o' Dee.

Manager Jack also revealed that young striker Kane Davies, who had been on loan at Strathspey Thistle, has agreed a permanent transfer to Forres Mechanics which is set to go through this week.

In addition to losing three players, Jack is also resigned to experienced midfielder Wayne Mackintosh being out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury which flared up after the recent victory at Wick Academy.

One player coming in at Rothes is former Caley Thistle youngster Ewan McLauchlan, who recently returned from a sports scholarship in America.

The 22-year-old midfielder captained his university team in the States and on coming back to Scotland he was quickly recruited by Rothes.

"He was on Caley Thistle’s books and played in the same team as Aiden Wilson and Ryan McRitchie," Jack revealed.

"We had to get international clearance but we have signed Ewan until the end of the season to see how things go.

"He plays in the middle of the park and did very well out in the States and he has looked decent in training.

"He knows some of the players and has slotted in well so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do on match days."
