AFTER five weeks without a match, Rothes were more than a match for league leaders Brechin City in a 1-0 loss at Mackessack Park on Saturday.

It took former Falkirk winger Botti Biabi's 81st minute strike to separate the sides at the end of a hard-fought clash.

Manager Ross Jack said that, after a slowly growing into the match, the Speysiders had chances to beat their high-flying visitors.

"In the first 15 minutes they were sharper," Jack said. "That's no surprise because they hadn't missed games and we hadn't played for five weeks.

"But after we got bedded in we gave them a game and had opportunities to win. We just couldn't finish our good moves.

"They had one clear chance that they missed, but the goal they scored there were question mark about as we thought it was offside.

"We overran them at times but they are winning games from position that seem tough for them so fair play to them."

The manner of the performance has given encouragement to Jack, although he is frustrated that momentum will again be halted, with no game this weekend.

That's due to a match with Keith being brought forward from this weekend earlier in the campaign.

"We aren't happy to be beaten by anybody but we can take great heart from our performance," he said.

"The league leaders, who haven't missed a game or training, came and we gave them a great game.

"It was a knock to the boys because we were in it right until the end.

"The fact we don't have a game this weekend is quite frustrating, to say the least. We took the Keith game forward, which was a great idea at the time.

"It's not the fault of anybody so we will just train hard and get a couple of good sessions in because it's a really tough run in."
