Last Saturday saw the Elgin club's first XV make the journey to Inverness to take on Highland 2nd XV in a trial game.

Meanwhile, back at Moray's home ground of Morriston, a Scottish Rugby Union development day was staged for female players, attended by a range of north clubs.

For their Highland test, the Moray men took a squad of 23 players west for a match involving four 20-minute sessions.

The fixture was a very close and well-contested affair with a lot of good rugby played.

Although this was the first game in a long time, there was not much signs of rustiness and the match was tied at 19 points each.

Moray scored three tries, two in open play through Rory Millar and Ed Walling with the other scored by captain Marc Higgins after a scrum was driven over the line.

Rory Millar added two conversions.

A club spokesperson said: "It was a good start to the season with a lot of positives to be taken in readiness for the league season starting against Mackie at home on the 4th of September."

The following day, Moray hosted the SRU-led girls and women development day at Morriston.

Around 70 girls and women from Moray, Highland, Banff, Ellon, Garioch, Inverness Craig Dunain and Huntly attended the session.

Luck was with them in regards to the weather and the theme of reintroduction to contact rugby after the long lay-off, saw touch rugby as well as full contact rugby played.

The session was staged under the direction of Rudi Urbach, regional director of Caledonia North, and Cameron Hughes, Moray Rugby Club development officer, ably assisted by various coaches from the home and attending clubs, with feedback very positive.

Moray RFC training is well under way throughout the club.

On Tuesday evenings, tartan touch and youth sessions for three age groups (under 13/14, under-15/16 and under-18) are held alongside girls and senior team training.

Thursday nights are for women and seniors, while there is a walking rugby session hosted by the club every Saturday.

This coming Sunday sees the Moray RFC mini/micro (all primary ages) section hold a registration day, as well as a return to training.
