The midfielder is back at Grant Park after spells at Elgin City, Forres Mechanics and Deveronvale, but isn't expected to play until October.

Farquhar (27) has overcome knee problems which dogged him during his time at Forres.

He said when a brief spell at Deveronvale while Forres took a season out during the pandemic was shut down after a handful of matches, he became disillusioned with football and threw himself into work.

But Lossie have handed him a way back into the Highland League and he says his appetite for action has been restored.

Farquhar began playing for local welfare side Hopeman and will continue to do so to improve his fitness levels.

"I’m not actually going to be playing for Lossiemouth until October," he said. "I’m playing to keep my fitness up, I’ve got too much work on a Saturday just now but hopefully that will change as the year goes on.

"Only recently I’ve been realising how much I’ve missed my football so I’m looking forward to getting going with Lossie."

Farquhar's career began in the juniors with the now defunct Lossiemouth United and he stepped up to Highland League with his home town team.

His performances attracted the attention of the Coasters' SPFL neighbours Elgin City and he played part of a season in League Two before making the switch to Forres.

He explained how a knee problem kept him on the sidelines but he refused to get surgery and has made a full recovery.

"I had a scan and there was cartilage needing taken out but I was told that over time it can get better by itself which happened for me.

"I did get offered the operation but I never took it and it’s been fine ever since.

"I was out with a year through injury and with Covid as well, so it was close to two years without football.

"I only played about four games for Vale and when it stopped my motivation completely went. Now it’s back to normal I’ve got the itch again.

"I felt I played my best football at lossie in that first spell and I decided to go back to where it all began."

He is keen to help a young Lossiemouth squad continue their progress up the league table.

"I’ve been training with them and speaking to guys like Liam Archibald, realising that we are the older ones in a good young squad.

"They have picked up a few good results so hopefully it’s the start of something good."
