Asked to bat first, Forres posted 187 in an innings which never really flowed. Despite that, Pal Dhami top scored with 76, well supported by Fraser Merricks who added 24, Asim Ali with a belligerent 19 and a patient 26 from Gus Farr.

The Forres bowlers put on a good display, especially the opening pair of Merricks and Ali who gave away only 34 runs in the first 16 overs. Merricks claimed the wicket of opener John Paul when Thakore took a fine catch in the outfield and Thakore took the next wicket in his first over, trapping Gillani leg before for 8.

Two more quick wickets for Thakore left Highland on 56 for 4 but a partnership of 56 between R. Raja and S Karthikeyan proved difficult for Forres to break. A couple of dropped catches didn’t help matters but finally Merricks held on to another good catch on the boundary off the bowling of Farr to open up the tail for the Forres bowlers.

New recruit Gujjar helped himself to three wickets, Farr another two leaving Highland on 131 all out. Thakore had the top bowling figures of 3 for 17, Farr 3 for 28 and Gujjar 3 for 37.

This Saturday Forres are at home to top of the table Northern Counties, starting at noon.
