ARCHIE Macphee hopes his last gasp Scottish Cup winner will help turn around Elgin City’s fortunes.

The stand-in left back broke Lowland League Spartans’ hearts with an 89th minute winner at Borough Briggs on Saturday (see match highlights below on the William Hill YouTube video).

Elgin were heading for a sixth game without victory and a tricky replay in Edinburgh until Macphee’s deadly header found the mark.

The former Ross County player hopes his team’s late win can spark a run of good results to help push them back up the League 2 table.

"We need to build on this from next week," he said. "We’ve got two home league games coming up and we feel as if we can pick up good results in these two games and kick on from here.

"Hopefully it’s a turning point. You can’t win all the time, you are going to have setbacks along the way and we’ve been through a phase where we’ve not picked up points.

"It would be all the harder if we were playing badly but we have played well in some of our recent games and things haven’t gone our way."

News of Thursday’s William Hill Scottish Cup third round draw, which takes place at 10am, will also be online soon after the draw is completed.
