The Speyside club are regular national winners and came out on top in the Scottish Cup for Clubs competition at the weekend.

After defeating Penicuik 28-2 in the semi-finals at Moffat on Saturday, Fochabers took on Inverleith the following day with the title at stake.

Wins for Lynn Jenkins and Robbie Stronach got two points apiece on the board for Fochabers in the singles.

Mike Watt and Johnny Wilson were defeated in their matches while Derek Adam earned the next Fochabers points, while a loss for Alex Davie meant the scores were all square at six apiece going into the doubles.

Inverleith won two of the three doubles encounters with three points at stake in each game, meaning they took a 12-9 lead going into the triples finale.

Fochabers needed to win both matches and they did that in style.

Shirley Legge joined Stronach and Watt in one triple winning 13-0, while Adam, Wilson and Jenkins teamed up for a 13-3 success in the other match to ensure that Fochabers were the champions.

The victory also means that Fochabers Petanque Club will represent Scotland in a European competition held in December.
