A former Scottish Cup winner could be Elgin City’s secret weapon in their quest to defeat Ayr United and reach the quarter-finals.

City stopper Ross Draper lifted the famous old trophy in 2015 when he starred in the Caley Thistle side that beat Falkirk 2-1.

Those memories will forever live with the 34-year-old, who will be using his vast experience tomorrow to try and lead Elgin to glory.

“I like to remind the boys now and then that I’ve won the cup,” Draper joked.

“But it is a great achievement for a club like Elgin to get here, and having got there to go one step into the quarters would be amazing.

“To get in to the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with any team, whether it’s a Premiership or Championship team, it’s a great achievement. For a League 2 team to get there would be incredible.”

Draper insists all the pressure is on Championship high-flyers Ayr.

“I’ve been on both ends in terms of being the underdog and winning, and actually being beaten by an underdog. It’s not nice, it’s not good having that pressure on your shoulders against lower league opposition so hopefully we can use that to our advantage and put on a good show for ourselves.

“We have nothing to lose and I’m sure we will go out there and make a good account of ourselves and you never know what can happen.

“The pressure will be on Ayr to go and win. I hear comments, not from anyone at Ayr but when they were playing Cove it was all about the winners being happy with the Elgin City tie.

“Teams will be happy to play a League 2 team at home. We’ll put our own spin on it and give ourselves a chance of going through.

“We have had good performances away from home with the style of play that we’ve got so why not go and potentially have a big upset in the Scottish Cup.

“That’s what everyone wants.”
