SOME of the world’s top golfers will be scoring cash for two north charities at this week’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
Every birdie, eagle or albatross holed by Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington and the rest of the star studded field at Castle Stuart raised funds for Maggie’s Highlands and Connecting Carers, two good causes supporting the Highlands and Islands area.
Both are official charities at this year’s tournament – which begins on Thursday – and will also benefit from the sale of every official drawsheet bought by the thousands of spectators attending the European Tour event.
Sponsors Aberdeen Asset Management and the Tour Players’ Foundation (TPF), the charitable arm of tour, have each pledged to donate £5 for every birdie, £10 for each eagle and £50 for every albatross holed during the four rounds played this week between Thursday and Sunday.
Last year’s tourney saw more than 1,800 birdies and 20 eagles scored at Castle Stuart, and a similar amount would earn almost £20,000 for the two charities.
Suggested voluntary donations of £1 for each drawsheet picked up by fans in the welcome pavilion and exhibition area in the tented village will also be collected, and all proceeds will be split evenly between Maggie’s and Connecting Carers.
