Welfare's Tewnion Cup final, north region junior football and rugby all cancelled after death of Queen Elizabeth II

SPORTING events are being postponed and cancelled in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire yesterday. Her death was announced at 6.30pm.

Since, sporting events up and down the country have been put on the sidelines.

In Moray, tonight's planned Tewnion Cup final between RAF Lossiemouth and Hopeman, which was due to take place at Grant Park in Lossiemouth, has been postponed.

A new date will be announced for the match in due course.

All junior football matches across the country have been postponed, so scheduled North Region Junior Cup matches have been postponed.

New Elgin, Forres Thistle, Burghead Thistle, Islavale and Lossiemouth United were all scheduled to be in action.

All club rugby in Scotland has also been postponed across the weekend.

No decision has been made yet by the SPFL with regard to Elgin City's match against Albion Rovers.

The Highland League are yet to announce any postponements, with a full card of nine matches scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
