FORRES Mechanics will be playing for stricken coach Charlie Brown when they take on Nairn County in this weekend’s big derby match.
The Moray town was shaken by Tuesday’s news that Mechanics legend Brown (41), who suffers from depression, was seriously ill and had been rushed to hospital in Aberdeen.
Good news has since emerged, with Brown being released from hospital on Wednesday night and reported to be making a recovery back home in Forres.
Mechanics’ midweek match against Fraserburgh was postponed shortly after news of Brown’s illness broke, but they are back in action at Nairn on Saturday in a game they will dedicate to their coach’s recovery.
Forres manager Charlie Rowley revealed how the club and the whole community was ready to rally behind Brown to help him overcome his illness.
“As seriously as we all take our football, it becomes secondary after something like this happens,” he said. “It’s been a big shock to the system for everyone.
“There have been messages of support coming in from everywhere and that shows just how well respected Charlie is. He’s one of the best players that I’ve ever seen at Highland League level and he’s been a real credit to Forres in general.
“Hopefully he is on the right road to recovery now.”
