TOP of the table and there on merit, insists a delighted Forres Mechanics’ boss Charlie Rowley.

Rowley said the players, fans and committee should relish the achievement but admits the really hard work starts now.

"It is a great feeling and we should enjoy it," he said.

"I have been here 10 years as a player, coach and now manager and I can’t recall being top of the league."

"The league table doesn’t lie and after 10 games the team that has been the most consistent is top of the league. At this stage, I would say we are the top team in the Highland League.

"We are there to be shot at now and there is still a long way to go, but we are where we want to be at this stage.

"We won’t go changing things because we are top of the league. We need to remain at our best physically and mentally."

Rowley is convinced he has the right temperament in the Mosset Park squad to cope with the pressure of being top of the table.

Forres will face their first game as league leaders this Saturday when they welcome Cove Rangers to Mosset Park.

With six wins from their opening six home games, Mosset Park has become a fortress again this season and the Mechanics have only lost their twice in the last two years, both times against Keith.

"We have won something like 32 of our last 36 games at home. That home record is important to us.

"We know we need to keep playing well to keep winning games," he added.
